Faith Angels Ministry provides education and sanitation to vulnerable children, youth, and women in impoverished communities to promote job creation and create a society that can escape poverty.

Social Issues Addressed by Faith Angels Ministry

Lack of access to safe water

In Uganda, where the Faith Angels school was built, there is no access to safe water. The water in Uganda is three quarters contaminated and 21 million people currently has no access to safe water.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every year more than 3,000 small children are dying of diarrhea in Uganda and 40% Ugandans travel more than 60 minutes to get safe drinking water.

Poverty prevents access to education

Of children with primary education, only 1 in 4 will advance to secondary education.

Currently, there are over 2.2 million people orphans in Uganda. Orphan children have a limited access to education.

Children living in the poorest districts of Uganda do not have access to the future they deserve, and Faith Angels Ministry wants to give underprivileged children a chance to survive through education.

Vision: Creating a self-reliant community free from poverty

To provide children regardless of their family background, religion, or age with the chance to receive an education and to encourage their economic independence. The project also aims to create a society where children can have reliable access to living infrastructure by improving sanitation.

Life of the Founder

Originally from Uganda, Buhungiro Andrew Tomson grew up in an area where many children had lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. Growing up in such an environment, he began to help the less fortunate children around him. Eventually, as a young man, he wondered if he could do more for these children. The answer was to get an education to gain knowledge and experience. After graduating from college, as he worked in the community of the socially disadvantaged, he became more and more determined to provide education to children who had been neglected by society.

With his meager salary, he started Faith Angels Ministries Africa, an NGO, and finally established Faith Angels Nursery and Primary School (hereinafter referred to as Faith Angels School). The Faith Angels School was born out of his tender heart to ensure that vulnerable and struggling children have access to education and infrastructure.

The Founder’s Thoughts on Faith Angels Ministry

“As long as they have the opportunity to get a good education, they have the chance to have a future.”

The area where he grew up was abandoned by the government and the country. The children there had no government support, no guardians, no livelihood, and had to rely on gambling and drinking to survive. They had no access to government programs for primary education.

However, he believed that if only they had the opportunity to receive a good education, these children would have a chance to have a future. Faith Angels School’s hope is that children, regardless of their family background, religion, or age, will have access to education.

Success Stories

Providing information and supporting food and hygiene items to the Batwa people under COVID-19

img_ngo_success_1

In December 2019, when the global pandemic of COVID-19 was declared by WHO, the indigenous Batwa people of Uganda were exposed to extreme poverty and the threat of coronavirus. Many of the Batwa are poor people who earn their income through day labor. The lockdown caused many of them to lose their jobs. With no income, they could not afford hygiene products and food to prevent infection.

So Andrew provided updated information on COVID-19 to about 1500 Batwa people. They did not have access to this information, so understanding their situation was an effective step toward infection control. Next, we distributed food and soap to 1,317 people from 247 households and gave them a lecture on effective hand washing. For the Batwa, who do not have access to hygiene products, the soap helped to improve their sanitation.

Counseling and orientation sessions for children

Faith Angels School held an open school to provide counseling and enrollment information to more than 150 underprivileged children in the community. On the same day, the kindergarten graduation ceremony was held, and 18 students went on to elementary school. This was the first time in the region that the children were seen in their graduation gowns.

Major Activities of Faith Angels Ministry

School and children

Faith Angels kindergarten and elementary school aims to provide orphans and vulnerable children with a high level of literacy and to educate them out of ignorance. In this way, domestic violence and child labor can be reduced.

The goal of the school is to help vulnerable children in Uganda to reach their full potential physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually. Without access to this school, vulnerable children would have little chance of receiving a proper education that will support them and their families and give them a future.

Currently, 193 children are attending the school. Providing educational support to so many children is only possible with the cooperation of many supporters. Currently, we are in the process of adding more classrooms as the school is getting too small. A portion of the funds raised will be used for the construction of the new school building and for educational expenses.

Clean water access problem

img_water_problem

There is no safe water in the vicinity of Faith Angels school, and students and neighbors have to walk six kilometers up a mountain to get water.

If this project is successful, it will provide safe water to 2,200 residents in 250 households, 193 students, 8 teachers and 10 staff members of Faith Angels School.

With $20, we can provide daily meals and education for 3 children each month.
